Topology

Topology is the structural arrangement of Agents within a Composition — who is connected to whom. It is the graph over which information flows and effects propagate. In a company, the Topology includes the org chart, the informal networks, the meeting structures, and the communication channels. In a biological system, it includes which cells are in contact, which are in diffusion range, and which share direct signaling pathways. In an AI deployment, it includes which agents can communicate with which other agents, which systems each agent can access, and what interfaces connect them.

Topology determines which Causal-to-Computational couplings exist. The same group of Agents arranged in a different Topology produces a different Composition with different collective Boundaries. Topology is one of the three structural elements of a Composition alongside Protocol and Tools. The Positional Causal Boundary — the reach an Agent has because of where it sits — is a direct consequence of Topology: the position confers the reach.
